Daniel Menche

some excerpts from reviews:

"Portland, Oregon's own, Daniel Menche is an undisputed master of noise. His majestic sound sculptures are sometimes soothing, and other times infinitely grating, but he elicits a sense of control unparalleled in this often . Throughout his tours during '94 and '95, he created and controlled sounds using his usual pressure mics and effects, but added a sheet of glass, and a mound of iodized salt as instruments. Crowds stood astounded as Menche poured the salt on the glass then let loose with the mics, grinding themicrophone against the salt covered glass with one hand and twiddling knobs with the other. He built sounds so huge and threatening, you'd think you were standing next to a Boeing 747 preparing for take off. But he'd just as easily leave you in a crackling near-silence with your heart racing, trying to catch your breath."

"The finalist was natural healthy wild vegetarian c/o DANIEL MENCHE in Portland. He is well known by his unique/cheerful character and many releases recently.

His performance was the most loud one in performers this night. He started his performance with dropping his spit on salt in a pot. His sound was played by doing noise effect to rubbing sound between salt and 2 contact-microphones. And, except salt too, he violently rubbed his arm, his hand, his fist and the floor of concrete with contact-microphones. It seemed that it's violent action, not performance. (And it's very cool because of his big body) His action made very strong noise with his violent moving."
