Bad
Sector
Bad Sector project was founded in 1992 by Massimo
Magrini, who lives in Italy. The project started as an investigation
of different kinds of approaches of technologies in multimedia
arts.
Since the beginning, Bad Sector has worked with different
kinds of media, although music remains the most important one. The
aim was to reach new methods in using technology in the art-field:
sometimes using reused and low-tech devices, sometimes using hi-tech
prototype electronics. Also, Bad Sector has worked on software
programming, building custom programs to use in performances and
recordings, in order to make conceptual structures that are
impossible to create using conventional tools.
Most of the
studio recordings are based on iterative patterns, made using
low-tech electronics. Their structure is often based on templates
built on the analysis of ritual and religious music. In fact, many of
these tracks can be considered as religious music for hypothetical
pagan gods rituals. These gods can be dedicated to every aspects of
our life, and some of the rituals can happen every days in our minds.
The sounds are very deep and dirty, as most of our souls.
Although
B.S. can be identified with Massimo Magrini, sometimes it can be
considered as a network of artists and organizations. Solo
performances (using conceptual electronics) are performed by Massimo
Magrini. Most of these performances are created in collaboration with
the Computer Music Department of CNUCE, an Institute of the National
Research Council of Italy. Darkest ambient electronics live
performances, plus some of the multimedia conceptual works, involve
one or two additional musicians/performers: Mary6 and LeO. Other work
areas are soundtracks for theater pieces and ballets, video and
interactive video, photos and computer poetry.
